show の誤用と、代わりに使える動詞

動詞「show」は、日本人学者が書いた論文において誤用頻度が最も高い単語の一つです。
確かに、原因が「見せる」の誤訳にある場合もありますが、私の経験からすれば、「見せる」よりは「示す」の誤訳となっていることの方が多いように思います。
「show」が誤用される場合、その代りに使用できるものとして「exhibit」、「display」、「indicate」、「represent」、「express」、「reveal」、「depict」、「prove」、「possess」のいずれかが最適な場合がほとんどです。以下にそれぞれの単語の典型的な使用を例示します。
(1) The behavior /exhibited/displayed/ by this system is atypical.
(2) The undulation frequency /exhibits/possesses/ a weak temperature dependence.
(3) The patient exhibited clinical improvement.
(4) These data are /displayed/plotted/ in Fig. 1.
(5) The resonance /displays/possesses/ a sharp resonance near 4 Hz.
(6) Such complexes display a tendency to localize in mitochondria.
(7) These results /indicate/suggest/demonstrate/ that our approach is insufficient in the present case.
(8) Here, the quantity α represents the state of the system.
(9) The energy density is /expressed/written/ in terms of the electron density.
(10) The ideas /expressed/presented/ in their paper are certainly novel.
(11) Their study clearly reveals the main flaw in the standard approach.
(12) This analysis /reveals/elucidates/ the main source of experimental error.
